Why Most Filtration Isn't Enough
Reverse osmosis has a well-earned reputation as one of the most thorough filtration methods available — and it is. RO systems force water through a membrane so fine it can reject contaminants down to the ionic level: dissolved salts, heavy metals, PFAS, pesticide residue, most of what people are trying to escape when they invest in filtration in the first place.
Here's the part almost nobody mentions when they're selling you one: that same membrane doesn't distinguish between what shouldn't be there and what should. Calcium, magnesium, potassium — the minerals your body actually wants from your drinking water — get stripped out right alongside the contaminants. What comes out the other end is technically pure and, nutritionally, close to empty. Water scientists sometimes call this 'aggressive' or 'hungry' water — so devoid of dissolved minerals that it can actually leach minerals from whatever it touches, including your pipes, in an effort to find equilibrium.
Most people who've invested in a standalone RO system have no idea this is happening. They assume 'filtered' and 'complete' are the same thing. They aren't.
This is the specific gap the Triton X12 was engineered to close.
